The charter
Six Personal AI freedoms
We do not describe this work as a list of features. Features are given and taken away by whoever owns the product. Freedoms are commitments, written so partners, researchers and regulators can hold implementations, including our own, against them.
01. Choose your AI
Freedom to choose your AI
The model serving a person is a choice they make, not one the platform makes for them.No model is imposed on a personThe layer supports multiple models and providers at once, and a person or organization can adopt a better one without rebuilding personal context. Capability competition stays open.
02. Control your data
Freedom to control your personal data
What is stored, remembered, shared and forgotten is decided by the person it describes.Consent and permission are foundations, not featuresEvery access to personal context is explicit, inspectable and revocable. What is stored, remembered and forgotten is decided by the individual, never as a precondition for using a model.
03. Choose where it lives
Freedom to choose where your data lives
Region, infrastructure and legal jurisdiction are choices, not defaults set somewhere else.Residency and jurisdiction are a choice, not a defaultPeople, organizations and governments can select the region, the infrastructure and the legal jurisdiction that applies, and change that choice later without losing continuity.
04. Local or cloud
Freedom to use local or cloud AI
Running privately on your own device or at scale in the cloud is the same personal layer.Deployment is a setting, not a rewriteThe same personal layer runs privately on a device or at scale in a regional cloud. Sensitive context can stay local while other work runs remotely, under one set of permissions.
05. Switch providers
Freedom to switch providers
Leaving must be as practical as joining, or none of the other freedoms are real.Leaving is as practical as joiningIdentity, memory formats and portability are defined in the open so more than one implementation can exist and a person's context can move between them intact.
06. Keep it over time
Freedom to keep your Personal AI over time
A person's context should outlive the company, the model generation and the device that started it.Personal context outlives the technology generationContext compounds for years and survives model shifts, acquisitions and shutdowns. Governance is contributed rather than owned, so no single participant, including the reference platform, is the authority.
